PRISONER FOUND DEAD IN CELL
A 39-year-old prisoner has died in his cell.
Michael Jackson, who had been recalled to jail to serve the rest of his one-year sentence for affray, was found in his cell at the large category B Holme House prison in Stockton on Tees.
It is understood he was not subject to suicide prevention measures and an inquiry is under way.
A Prison Service spokeswoman said: “HMP Holme House prisoner Michael Joseph Jackson was pronounced dead in his cell at 11.20am on Wednesday July 11, after what appeared to be an act of serious self-harm.
“As with all deaths in custody, the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation.”
Mark leech editor of Converse said: “Its about time we removed the ambit of Fatal Incident Inquiries from the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman, his reports have been criticised by Coroners as bearing no reality to what actually happened and some of his reports are not published until as much as seven years after the death – deceased inmates and their families deserve better.”
